On April 2004, Alanis hosted the Juno Awards, in Edmonton, Canada. She wore a nude-colored body suit with lifelike nipples and pubic hair to make a statement about censorship and Janet Jackson’s breast-baring Superbowl incident. The audience roared with laughter upon realizing that her nudity was fake.
Alanis became engaged to her boyfriend of two years, Ryan, in June 2004.
She became a U.S. citizen on 11th February 2005. She now considers herself a Canadian-American. She also has been inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame on 5th June 2005 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
“Jagged Little Pill, Acoustic” was released for the tenth anniversary of her most selling album. Starbucks, the Coffee Company which is the leading retailer, roaster and brand of specialty coffee in the world, signed the exclusive deal: the album would been sold for six month only in their shops, starting from June 13th. The rest of the world could buy it from July 26th. Not everyone enjoyed it: HMV, Canada’s largest music chain, said they would promptly return all Morissette items back to her record company. A spokesperson said the move to ban Morissette’s music was consistent with the views of the majority of their customers.
In an interview released during the promotion of “Jagged Little Pill, Acoustic”, Alanis declared that between the ages of 14 and 18 she battled low self-esteem that sparked a major struggle with anorexia and bulimia. She said at the time her weight jumped up and down between 15 and 20 pounds. She would barely eat for months at a time, subsisting on Melba toast, carrots and black coffee.
On July 2005, Alanis celebrated her 3rd anniversary with Ryan in New Orleans. Fot this event, she got a REAL tattoo: a cube with an “R” on each side. The three R’s come from Ryan of course (Ryan Rodney Reynods) - Ryan’s first, middle and last name. She did not say what part of her body she got the tattoo on.
A generous contribution by Alanis has enabled one of the communities most severely impacted by last December’s earthquake and tsunamis to access the critical economic opportunities they need to reestablish productive lives.
Through a partnership with the international development and humanitarian relief organization CHF International, Alanis’s $50,000 donation has empowered a local community-based organization in Indonesia’s Aceh province, Udeb Saree Lhok Seudu, to undertake several important economic revitalization projects that will provide tsunami victims with the resources they need to thrive.
In the meantime, Alanis had time to make some tv ads (Motorola, GAP), host a documentary (she narrated the Documentary “Global Warming: The Signs and The Science”, premiered on PBS on November 2nd, 2005.) and tour in Europe (April-May, having her first concert in Budapest, Hungary, her mother's native land) and North America (for her first Acoustic Tour to promote her latest release). The song recorded for GAP Favourites, a cover of “Crazy” by Seal, is later chosen as the new single for the first collection. “The Collection” was released on November 15, 2005, followed by a limited edition version of the album on December 6, 2005. The limited edition featured a DVD including a documentary with videos of two unreleased songs from 1996 Can’Not Tour: ‘King of Intimation’ and ‘Can’t Not’ (the latter appeared in a reworked version on “Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie”). The DVD also includes a 90 second clip of the unreleased video for the song "Joining You", one the most wanted unreleased pearls that all we fans wanted so badly.
Even though she often said that a new album is in the works and is expected to be released during 2006 (the sound of which is rumored to be more ‘exotic’), 2006 seems to be the year of silence. Alanis hasn’t been in studio (as promised the year before while been interviewed during the European tour), hasn’t toured (with few exceptions). But she has been in theathre (in London, for “The Exonerated”, playing again the role of Sunny Jacobs) and she took part to “Pittsburgh”, a movie by Jeff Goldblum, and “Lovespring, International”, a TV Serie.
Alanis and Ryan has splitted (apparently in April-May 2006). But the couple showed again together in July 2006, holding hands while walking in LA. Sources say their split could have been just a rumour and that they never spittled. Better for the both of them!
In the meantime, she kept writing.. according to an interview in June 2006 she had already written 9 journals. She is, in general, ready to take a few more risks in her career.
“I love fusion. I love fusion music and fusion art and fusion architecture, so I would love to fuse sonic landscapes with the more organic ones and stretch that even further on this next record and work with new people, so I'm excited about that.”
Also, Alanis talked also about her future project when she came in Italy in November 2005: writing a book. She said:
“I won’t collect my memories, but I’d love to share my philosophy of life itself”
She delivered one of the most memorable performances of her career last year with a riotous parody of the Black Eyed Peas' hit "My Humps". Entertainment Weekly lauded the YouTube sensation, which has been viewed more than 13.5 million times to date, as one of the top downloads of '07 and praised Alanis for "revisiting the age-old question, 'What you gonna do with all that ass, all that ass inside them jeans?'"
